Gracie's Repair

Two weeks ago Gracie had surgery on three hernias.  All her hernias were from birth/birth defect and not because she's been pumping massive iron at the gym.  Here are her & her faithful stuffed Piglet which she calls Beak (not sure why she named him that, but she was only two when he was titled so who knows what was going through her head).
Daddy felt it would be appropriate for Beak to be dressed for surgery as well.   So he got a gown made our of a latex glove.   We couldn't go in the operating room with Gracie, but Beak could.  He was by her side the whole time, and germ free at that.
After Gracie came out of surgery we went back to see her.  Then she needed to be wheeled to her recovery room.  Of course Josh asked if he could ride with her.  The nurse thought he was being sympathetic to Gracie & didn't want to leave her side... if only she knew Josh.  Gracie doesn't remember the ride on the hospital bed, but her Daddy sure does!
For the first three days she laid completely flat.  It just hurt to much to lay propped up or sit.  After those three days this is what her hair looked like in the back.  Needless to say it took me a while to brush it out.  She wasn't allowed a bath for an entire week because of her incisions.  So we attacked this problem a few times during her recovery.
Today was Gracie's first day back to school since her surgery.  She is doing pretty well now.  Her belly button is tender still and she can't jump, run, or climb yet.  But daily activities are not painful; this is saying a lot considering I had to carry her to the bathroom for four days after the surgery.  Gracie is one tough cookie.  She was such a trooper through it all and never complained unless she was in unbearable pain.  We're looking forward to her being completely healed up.
While on the mend Gracie spent much of her time snapping shots on my camera that I accidentally left on the nightstand.  She was confined to my bed, but that did not stifle her creativity.  Here are a few of her shots for your enjoyment.
All her babies she likes to sleep with.
Her new pencil sharpener she got as a get well present from a friend.
A still life of shoes.  I'm currently going through the twins clothes & pulling out what doesn't fit anymore.  All the too small clothes are piled in my room.  Well, Gracie found 'em and made the most of the opportunity.
My nightstand... that's pretty much all you need right there- a Country Living magazine, a remote for the TV, and night cream.
Our retro TV tray that Gracie used to eat her meals in bed.  (Guarantee my bro-in-law is now looking up how much this will fetch on Ebay.)
A wedding of her stuffed lion & tiger.  She documented each step of the wedding, I'm just sharing one of many shots in the series.
 Patrick!
 Faithful ol' Beak.
One of many shots of the television.  This one is really cool.  I would frame it if the PBS Kids logo wasn't in the bottom corner.
Her sweet little sister who just wanted to be by Gracie the whole time she was home.  And every time I would check Grace's belly to see how everything looked, Danica would also make me check her belly.  Kudos to Gracie for getting Danica to look at the camera, hold still, and smile- I can never make that happen!

Thanks to all our friends and family that helped us out during Gracie's surgery and recovery and for your cards and gifts.  You all made Gracie feel very special and loved.

If I...

In their class the twins do these fun "If I had" worksheets.  They usually coincide with a subject they have been learning about during the week.  It is fun to see what their little minds think of & the pictures they create.
Maddie: If I lived 100 years I would be a horse trainer to teach children how to ride horses.
Gracie: If I live 100 years I would ride a horse.
Gracie: If I were president I would go to the bowling alley.
Maddie: If I were president I would go swimming in the white house.
Maddie: If I had $100 I would get a swing set with a slide.
Gracie: If I had a $100 I would buy a playground.

I like how similar some of these are.  The girls don't sit by each other in class, so they don't know what the other one is writing.  Yet, they seem to be on the same page.  Looks like we need to get our kids a swing set!
